Men’s Hoops Hold Off Late Lake Forest Comeback, 94-90

Schumacher and Wallen combine for 38 points

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team used a 50-point second half to outpace Lake Forest College 94-90, Saturday, Nov. 23. The Titans improved their record to 4-1 on the season after holding off a rally by the Foresters with under five minutes left.

IWU built their lead to as many as 17 points in the second half behind strong shooting by junior Doug Wallen (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central HS) and sophomore Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University HS). A solid free throw shooting performance in the last minute of the game secured the win for the Titans after the Foresters cut the lead down to single digits.

Wallen scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Schumacher added 18 to lead the Titans in the high-scoring affair. Junior Grant Wolfe (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham HS) and sophomore Peter Lambesis (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-St. Viator HS) also scored in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Charlie Bair (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard South HS) made 13 rebounds to lead the Titans, as well as scoring eight points.

The Titans shot 44.4 percent from the field and 22-of-25 from the free throw line. Illinois Wesleyan outrebounded Lake Forest 42-31 with an 18-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. For second chance points, the Titans also held the edge 19-13 over the Foresters.

Next up for Illinois Wesleyan is a road trip to Indiana to face off against Anderson University. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
