Titans Lose Two Tight Matches in DePauw Volleyball Tourney

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (Friday, September 14) --  The No. 11 Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost a pair of matches in the DePauw Tiger Invitational on Friday, losing in four sets to No. 1 Calvin before falling in five sets to DePauw at Neal Fieldhouse.
 
The Titans (now 5-5 overall) lost to Calvin (8-0) by scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23. IWU led 22-15 in the final set before being outscored 10-1 late.
 
Senior Rachel Burkman had 18 kills and 14 digs against the Knights while senior Tyler Brown had 15 kills and 16 digs. Burkman had her 18 kills in 42 attempts with just three errors for a .357 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman Amber Juarez led the Titans with 17 digs. Senior Leah Seielstad had 19 assists and freshman Madi Corey made 11.
 
For the match, IWU hit .203 with 48 kills and 19 errors in 143 attempts while the Knights hit .201 with 54 kills and 22 errors in 159 tries.
 
Against DePauw (4-6), the scores were 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 25-19, 13-15.
 
Brown had 22 kills and 21 digs while Burkman had 19 kills and 17 digs and sophomore Jessica McCall had 11 kills and a team-best 23 digs.
 
Junior Kira Jackson handed out 31 assists with Seielstad making 28. Burkman had four blocks and senior Heidi Dague and freshman Bev Ryan each had three of the Titans' eight total blocks.
 
Illinois Wesleyan hit .203 for the match with 70 kills in 192 attacks with the Tigers hitting .186 on 63 kills and 204 total tries. IWU had 100 digs to 83 for DePauw.
 
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan opens College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Wednesday, Sept. 19, against Elmhurst College. The Bluejays are 4-7 overall after a 3-2 loss at Dominican Friday night.
