ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 13-ranked Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team dropped No. 5 Emory University in four sets, then went five sets in defeating Whittier College (Calif.) to claim both Saturday matches in the Emory Classic in Atlanta, Ga., on Sept. 1.
The Titans, now 2-1, defeated Emory, 12-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23, and came back from two sets down to topple Whittier, 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-9.
In the win over Emory, seniors
Tyler Brown (15) and
Rachel Burkman (12) led the way in kills while senior
Emily Chapman added seven. Brown also made 20 defensive digs with Chapman adding 12 and Burkman 10.
Sophomore
Caitlin Meyer made 26 set assists and senior
Leah Seielstad had 18
Burkman had career-highs of 24 kills and 33 digs, along with a team-high three aces in the win against Whittier. Brown had 24 digs and 20 kills and sophomore
Jessica McCall provided 10 kills, 16 digs and two service aces.
Seielstad also had a career-high with 34 assists and Meyer added 25. Senior
Heidi Dague led the Titans with four blocks.
Burkman and Brown were both selected to the eight-player Emory Classic all-tournament team.

Illinois Wesleyan hosts preseason No. 10-ranked Washington U. on Wednesday (Sept, 5) at 7 p.m. at the Shirk Center.
