BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team defeated Augustana College by a final score of 18-3 on Saturday, April 7. Junior
Dani Engelbreit led the Titans in scoring with three goals and three assists. Senior
Abby Kushina led the team in goals with four in addition to her one assist.
With a win the Titans improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Augustana fell to 6-5 and 0-2 in CCIW competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Titans opened the contest scoring eight unanswered goals with junior Sam Bidlack and Engelbreit each scoring twice.
- Augustana broke the Titans stretch with a goal by Carla Bennett in the 15th minute of action.
- Freshman Riley Rooney scored the Titans final goal of the first half as IWU held an 11-1 advantage at halftime.
- Augustana's Bennett struck first in the second half, cutting IWU's lead to 11-2.
- Illinois Wesleyan continued to increase their lead with a 4-0 run early in the second half. Sophomore Amanda Best and freshman Maggie Torres added goals alongside Bidlack and Engelbreit during the run.
- Kushina capped the game for Illinois Wesleyan with a man-up goal in the final minute of action.
SIGNIFICANT STATISTICS
- Illinois Wesleyan out-shot Augustana 43-8 overall and 31-6 in shots on goal.
- IWU committed just 13 turnovers compared to 28 for Augustana.
- The Titans were perfect in their clearance attempts finishing 9-of-9 and held the Vikings to a 10-of-22 performance on the clearance.
- Led by Engelbreit's five, the Titans won 18-of-22 draw controls.

Illinois Wesleyan is back in action on Wednesday, April 11 for a road conference game against the Elmhurst College Bluejays at 4:30 p.m. Elmhurst currently holds a season record of 5-5 overall with an 0-1 mark in CCIW competition. The Bluejays dropped their conference opener to Carroll University by a final score of 20-10 on April 7.
