ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team defeated Elmhurst College by a final score of 19-4 on Wednesday, April 11. Junior
Sam Bidlack tallied a game-high seven points after she scored twice and assisted on five goals. Freshman
Riley Rooney scored a game-high five goals which matches her previous career-high.
With a win the Titans improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Following a loss to IWU, Elmhurst fell to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in CCIW play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rooney opened the games scoring with a strike in the second minute of action, but Elmhurst quickly responded with a goal of their own less than two minutes later.
- With the score tied a 1-1, Illinois Wesleyan went on a 13-0 to finish the first half leading 14-1.
- Playing down a player due to yellow card with 12 minutes to play in the half, Rooney scored her fourth of four first half goals.
- IWU maintained momentum into the second half scoring the first three goals and taking a 17-1 lead.
- Elmhurst ended the Titans run at 16 unanswered goals with their second goal of the game at the 19:18 mark of the second half.
- Teams traded goals for the remainder of the contest with Bidlack scoring each of IWU's final two goals of the afternoon.
SIGNIFICANT STATISTICS
- Illinois Wesleyan out-shot Elmhurst 42-15 overall and 32-8 in shots on goal.
- IWU's transition defense was sturdy, allowing the Bluejays to convert on just 5-of-16 clearance attempts.
- The Titans converted on 10-of-11 clearance attempts on the offense end.
- IWU won 15-of-26 draw controls and were led in the draw by junior Dani Engelbreit who finished with six wins for the Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday, April 14 for a home conference game against the Carthage College Lady Reds at 1 p.m. Carthage currently holds a season record of 8-2 overall with a 1-0 mark in CCIW competition. The Lady Reds defeated University of Dubuque by a final score of 13-3 in their CCIW opener on April 7. Carthage will play against North Central College prior to facing off with the TItans.
