ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the third straight season, the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team is out to a 5-0 record to start the season after a 95-64 win over Westminster College (Mo.) on Friday, Nov. 23, at the Webster University Classic in St. Louis, Mo.
The Titans trailed 15-11 with 13:22 to play in the first half before going on a 21-4 run to take a commanding 32-19 lead with 9:02 left. Senior
Jason Gregoire had two 3-pointers and a basket during the 21 point stretch that saw IWU make eight of 10 from the field and four of five 3-pointers.
IWU was 21 of 35 (.600) in taking a 52-31 lead after the first 20 minutes.
Illinois Wesleyan finished with a .534 field goal shooting mark (39 of 73), went 10 of 30 from long range (.333) and made all seven free throw attempts.
Senior
Brady Rose led IWU with with 22 points and sophomores
Doug Wallen, who was eight of nine from the field, and
Charlie Bair added 17 and 12 points, respectively. Gregoire contributed 11 points including the eight during the first half run. Wallen also had five rebounds and a team-high five assists along with senior
Colin Bonnett.
Illinois Wesleyan had a massive 52-24 rebounding advantage with junior
Alex O'Neill and freshman
Matthew Leritz grabbing eight boards apiece with Leritz adding nine points.
Kobe Wands had 20 points and four rebounds to lead the Blue Jays (0-4).
What's Next?
The Titans will seek to start the season with six straight wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season when they play the tourney host school Webster at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24.
