2017 National Senior Games Track & Field Results

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - D. Paul Miller of Normal, Ill., a professor at Illinois Wesleyan University from 1960 to 1982, captured four gold medals and set a record in his 100-104 age group in last weekend's National Senior Games in Birmingham, Ala.

He won titles in the 50-meter dash (39.73 seconds), the 100-meter dash (1:05.06) and established a national record in the long jump at 2 feet-6 inches. The previous record in the 100-104 division was 2 feet-3 inches.
Miller also won the discus (21 feet-5 1/2 inches) in the only event in which he had a competitor.

The 99-year-old Miller was the head of IWU's Sociology and Anthropology department from 1960 to 1974. He competed in the 100-104 age division because divisions are based on how old a competitor will be at the end of the calendar year and Miller is set to turn 100 on Aug. 30.

In 2013, Miller won seven gold medals and one bronze in the National Senior Games at Cleveland, Ohio, setting three national records for his age group (95-99).
In 2014 he won six golds at the Illinois Senior Olympics in the 95-99 age group. His winning efforts included the 50 meter dash (14.9 seconds), 100 meter dash (30.2 seconds), 200 (1:18.0), standing broad jump (3 feet-7 inches), long jump (4 feet-9 inches) and discus (35 feet-5 inches). Miller broke his own state records in both the discus and long jump.
