Women's Lacrosse Bested In Overtime By Vikings, 12-11

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team scored in the final minute of action to force overtime with Augustana College on Saturday, April 8, but a goal at the end of the first overtime period secured a 12-11 victory for the Vikings. Sophomore Dani Engelbreit led the team in points with two goals and three assists on Saturday.

With a loss, the Titans fell to 7-5 overall with a 0-1 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Augustana improved to 4-5 and 1-0 in the CCIW.

Saturday was a game of runs for both sides as the Titans trailed early by a score of 5-0. IWU brought things back within reach prior to halftime by scoring three straight including two in the final five minutes of the half. After the Titans tied the game up at 6-all in the second half the Vikings rattled off four consecutive goals to take a 10-6 lead. Prior to overtime, Illinois Wesleyan scored four unanswered goals to tie the game up at all.

Sophomore Sara Dust scored the game-tying goal with 00:39 remaining in the half. Dust finished the game with a team-high three goals and one assist.

Also scoring for the Titans were senior Maggie Krause (2), sophomore Grainne Kelly (2), junior Abby Kushina (1) and sophomore Claudia Richman (1). Kruase, Kelly, and Kushina also tallied assists alongside sophomore Sam Bidlack.

Kelly, Bidlack and junior goalkeeper Claire Quist tied for the team lead in ground balls with four apiece. Quist made six saves in goal on 19 shots faced.

The Titans held advantages in shots (24-19), turnovers (21-22), ground balls (22-18) and draw controls (13-12).

What's Next?
IWU is at home on Saturday, April 15 for a conference showdown against University of Dubuque at 1 p.m. The Spartans currently hold an overall record of 7-4.
