BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team churned out to a 9-0 lead in the first nine minutes and went on to take a season-high 42 shots in posting a 17-2 win over Elmhurst at a rainy Tucci Stadium on Wednesday, April 26.
With their fourth straight win, the Titans improved to 11-5 overall and are 4-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays, playing with only 10 players in the game, fell to 2-14 overall and 1-4 in the CCIW.
The 42 shots is one short of the team record of 43, set against Carroll on April 30, 2016.
Illinois Wesleyan was led by a four-goal effort from sophomore
Sara Dust while senior
Maggie Krause and junior
Abby Kushina each had three goals. Krause also had two assists as the team leader was sophomore
Grainne Kelly with four assists. Kelly also had a goal and sophomore
Dani Engelbreit contributed two goals.
Junior
Claire Quist made three saves in the game as IWU outshot Elmhurst 42-5 with a season-high 33 shots on goal. The Bluejays had 25 turnovers compared to 20 for Illinois Wesleyan and the Titans took 15 draw controls to four for Elmhurst.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan closes out its regular season with a 12 p.m. game on Saturday, April 29, at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wis. The Pioneers are 2-14 and 0-5 in the CCIW after a 14-4 loss at Augustana Wednesday.
