MEMPHIS, Tenn .-- The 2017 Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse season opened with a 17-6 loss at Rhodes College on Mason Field in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday, Feb. 17.
The Lynx improved to 3-0 this season with the win.
Rhodes jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the game and the Titans trailed 12-4 at halftime after being outshot, 18-9. Rhodes also outshot IWU, 19-4, in the second half for a total of 37-13.
Sophomore
Dani Engelbreit provided two goals and an assist for the Titans while senior
Maggie Krause had a goal and an assist. Other goals came from sophomore
Claudia Richman, junior
Abby Kushina and sophomore
Grainne Kelly.
The Titans won 14 draw controls to 11 for the Lynx and Rhodes collected 38 ground balls to 26 for IWU with Engelbreit getting seven and Krause getting four.
Junior
Claire Quist played all 60 minutes in goal and made nine saves.
Attacker Kendall Cunningham had six goals for the Lynx, who had three players also get three goals each, including Maggie Rippeto, who also added four assists.
What's Next?
The Titans continue play in Memphis on Sunday, Feb. 19, with an 11 a.m. game against Berry College at Rhodes' Mason Field. Berry is 1-1 prior to playing Rhodes on Saturday.
