BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Sophomore
Zach Knobloch made a school-record 10 3-point field goals and the Illinois Wesleyan team set game records for 3-pointers made and attempted in gaining a 94-75 win over Alma College at the Shirk Center on Friday, Nov. 17.
The 2-0 Titans got 35 points from junior
Brady Rose, who connected on six 3-pointers, and 30 points from Knobloch.
Knobloch, playing in his second game at IWU after transferring from Wis.-Whitewater, made his school-record ninth 3-pointer to break the mark with 3:34 to go in the game and added one more later. He breaks the record of eight held by Bryce Dolan (vs. Ohio Wesleyan, Nov. 28, 2015); Mark Aubry (at Carthage; Feb. 19, 1994); Korey Coon (at Olivet Nazarene; Dec. 7, 1989 and North Central; Feb. 23, 2000); Adam Dauksas (at Elmhurst; jan. 14, 2006); and Mark Edmundson (at Wabash; Nov. 30, 1988).
The 20 3-point field goals made eclipsed the record of 19 set against North Park (Feb. 19, 2014) and against Millikin (Feb. 20, 1993) while the 45 3-point tries bettered the mark of 39 (vs Austin College, Nov. 29, 2014 and MacMurray College, Nov. 22, 2016). The Titans shot 45.1 percent from the field (32 of 71) and made 12 of 26 2-point field goal tries (46.1 percent).
Senior
Jaylen Beasley corralled a career-high 12 rebounds as the Titans and Scots each got 39 boards.
Alma led for the last time at 20-18 with 10:14 left in the first half before IWU went on a 12-0 run (eight of those points scored by Rose) to get a 30-20 lead and never looked back. IWU led 44-34 at intermission and when Alma scored the first two baskets of the second half to cut the lead to six (44-38), the Titans accelerated with a 7-0 spurt to go back up by 13 points at 51-38.
The Scots scored 38 of their points in the paint and were also not shy about shooting the 3-ball, making nine of 27 tries. Four Alma players scored in double figures, led by Ryan Stevens with 19 and Kevin Gamble with 13. Kevin Scheibert led the Scots with eight rebounds.
