Titans Use Second Half Shutout to Down Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Looking to make the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's lacrosse tournament for the first time in school history, the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team did just that by scoring an 11-4 road victory at Elmhurst on Wednesday, April 27.

The Titans are now 13-3 this season and 3-2 in the CCIW while the host Bluejays fell to 4-11 overall and winless in conference at 0-5.

An evenly-matched first 30 minutes of action saw both teams trade the first six goals of the game before IWU would gain some breathing room by scoring three of the last four goals of the half to take a 6-4 halftime lead. The second half was all Illinois Wesleyan as the Titans scored five goals and shined defensively, holding Elmhurst to just four shot attempts total in the half.

Freshman Sara Dust and sophomore Clarke Rich each turned in three goal performances while Sam Bidlack would find the back of the net twice on four shot attempts. Noelle Letourneau, Dani Engelbreit, and Maggie Krause would also score for IWU.

Goalie Claire Quist made five saves between the pipes, playing all 60 minutes in net.

Illinois Wesleyan outshot Elmhurst 28-12 in the contest and held a 31-15 advantage in ground balls. The Titans took advantage of an 11-6 draw control advantage as each team caused 10 turnovers.

What's Next?
IWU can lock up the No. 3 seed in next week's CCIW women's lacrosse tournament with a win on senior day against Carroll at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Lauren Pavich will be honored before the game as the Titan's lone senior representative on the team.
