IWU Women End Regular Season With Senior Day Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- On a day when the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team honored their first-ever senior player, an 11-goal first half allowed the Titans to race out to a 20-1 victory over Carroll University at Tucci Stadium on Saturday, April 30.

With the win, IWU improved to 14-3 and 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as the Pioneers end their season with a 4-13 overall record and a 1-5 conference record.

In the first half, IWU scored the first five goals of the game with freshman Sara Dust scoring the first two. After a Pioneer goal with 13:09 remaining in the half, the Titans took advantage of two Carroll yellow cards and scored six goals, including one just seven seconds before halftime to take an 11-1 halftime lead.

A stout defense continued the effort on a cool and rainy day in the second half, shutting out the Pioneers while the Titan offense scored nine to come away with their second-highest scoring output of the season.

Claudia Richman led all players by scoring four goals in the game while freshman Dani Engelbreit and Maggie Krause scored three apiece. The lone senior, Lauren Pavich, who was honored prior to the game, scored twice in the game but assisted on five Titan goals to add to her IWU career record of 55.

Goalkeeper Claire Quist had an easy day in net, making two saves on three shots faced, earning the win to improve to 13-3 this season.

Illinois Wesleyan held a commanding 43-4 lead in shots in the game and picked up 25 ground balls compared to only 11 for Carroll. The Pioneers were doubled up in turnovers with 32 as the Titans were only guilty of 16.
