BLOOMINGTON, ILL. -- Using eight second half goals, the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team came back from a 4-2 halftime deficit to beat North Central by a score of 10-7 at Tucci Stadium on Saturday, April 23rd.
IWU is now 12-3 this season and improved to 2-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the visiting Cardinals dropped their second straight game to fall to 11-4 and 2-2 in the CCIW.
Offense was hard to come by for both teams in the first 30 minutes of action as North Central scored the first three goals of the game before goals by
Lauren Pavich and
Abby Kushina less than a minute apart cut the Cardinal lead to 3-2 with 14:32 remaining in the first half. NCC closed out the half by adding one goal at the eight minute mark. An upstart Titan offense would go on a 6-0 run to start the second half capped by a
Sara Dust goal with 16:08 remaining in the game to give Illinois Welseyan their biggest lead of the game at 8-4. NCC closed the gap by scoring three goals over the next 11 minutes to make the score 8-7 with 5:00 minutes left before IWU put the game on ice with goals at the 2:42 mark and again with 23 seconds remaining.
Kushina led all scorers in the game with five goals while Pavich would scored twice and add an assist. Dust, along with
Sophia Sodolski and
Grainne Kelly would score the other Titan goals.
Claire Quist came up big for IWU in net, making seven saves while playing all 60 minutes to improve to 11-3 in net this season.
