DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Looking to rebound from their second defeat of the season last Saturday, the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team spoiled the University of Dubuque's senior day with an 11-4 road victory at Oyen Field in Dubuque on Saturday, April 16.
The Titans are now 11-2 overall and picked up their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin victory of the year to improve to 1-1 in the conference while the Spartans are 9-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW after dropping their second straight contest.
IWU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Dubuque could get on the board, scoring two of the next three goals to make the score 4-2 with 7:10 left in the first half. The next 10 minutes of the game would go scoreless before Illinois Wesleyan's
Clarke Rich would make the score 5-2 three minutes into the second half as IWU would outscore the Spartans 7-2 in the final 30 minutes of action.
Junior
Maggie Krause found the back of the net four times in the game in addition to two assists for a total of six points while Rich scored three goals of her own. Four other Titans would score one goal each while
Claudia Richman would lead IWU with three assists.
Sophomore Goalkeeper
Claire Quist played all 60 minutes between the pipes, making 12 saves while earning the victory.
What's Next?
A midweek CCIW contest awaits the Titans who will host Carthage College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20. The Lady Reds fell to Augustana by a score of 18-7 on Saturday afternoon.
