CHICAGO, Ill. -- Amidst three weather delays including one that delayed the start of the contest, the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team outlasted Illinois Institute of Technology in a 13-5 road victory at Stuart Field in Chicago on Wednesday, March 30.
The Titans improved upon their best record in school history at 9-1 while the Scarlet Hawks are now 5-3.Â
IWU and IIT traded goals to open the game with the score being tied at 2-2 with 15:28 left in the first half. Illinois Wesleyan scored the final three goals of the first half before scoring the first two goals of the second half to open up a 7-2 lead with 24:37 remaining in the game. The Scarlet Hawks closed the gap to 7-4 and again at 9-5 but would get no closer as the Titans closed the game out on a 4-0 run.Â

Maggie Krause led all players with three goals in the game while a handful of Titans (

Claudia Richman had three assists each.Â

Claire Quist played all 60 minutes in goal to pick up the win, making nine saves in the contest.Â
IWU outshot IIT 29-18 and were successful on two of five free position shots while holding the Scarlet Hawks to a 0-5 mark. Illinois Tech picked up 17 ground balls compared to 14 for Illinois Wesleyan but were guilty of 15 turnovers while IWU committed 14 turnovers. The Titans held a 10-6 advantage in draw controls.Â
What's Next?The final month of the regular-season starts with a 12 p.m. home contest for the Titans on Saturday, April 2nd against Calvin College at Tucci Stadium.Â
