IWU Women's Lacrosse Defeats Albion, 8-6

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- In a low scoring, tightly contested contest between the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team and visiting Albion College, the host Titans came away with an 8-6 victory at Tucci Stadium on Saturday, March 26.

The Titans are now 8-1 this season, eclipsing last season's win total of seven while the Britons fell to 1-6.

Albion opened the game by scoring two quick goals in the opening minutes before IWU would respond with two goals of their own to even the score. Trailing 3-2 with 18:12 remaining in the first half, Illinois Wesleyan would score the final four goals of the first half and score the first goal of the second half to take a 7-3 lead with 25:21 remaining. The Britons would close the gap, scoring three of the last four goals, but were held scoreless in the final 6:12 of the game by a tight Titan Defense who would come away with the victory.

Freshman Dani Engelbreit and junior Maggie Krause would lead Illinois Wesleyan with a pair of goals each while four other Titans (Clarke Rich, Sam Bidlack, Abby Kushina, and Grainne Kelly) all netted one. Krause would also assist on two of IWU's eight goals.

Sophomore Claire Quist career-high 22 saves while allowing six goals, improving to 7-1 in net this season.

IWU was outshot by Albion 36-20, but picked up 16 ground balls compared to nine for the Britons. Draw controls were 10-6 in favor of Albion while the Titans were successful on 20 of 23 clear attempts.
