LYNCHBURG, VA. - Looking for a 5-0 start to the season, the Illlinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team was stopped in their tracks and fell for the first time this season in a 13-8 loss at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday, March 12.
IWU is now 4-1 on the season after dropping their first game on their spring break trip while the host Hornets improved to 3-2 overall.
Lynchburg jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game before Illinois Wesleyan chipped away before the end of the half to trail 7-4 at intermission. The Titans would never get any closer than 8-6 with 22:35 remaining in the game before the Hornets outscored IWU 5-2 the rest of the way.

Maggie Krause paced Illinois Wesleyan with two goals each while sophomores
Clarke Rich and
Abby Kushina,and freshmen
Dani Engelbreit and
Grainne Kelly each scored one goal. Pavich and Krause also recorded two assists each.
Sophomore
Claire Quist went the distance in goal, dropping her first decision of the year while making 11 saves.
The Titans were outshot by the Hornets 32-20 and were guilty of 17 turnovers compared to 12 for Lynchburg. IWU was 11-19 on clear attempts and Lynchburg was 14-16. Draw controls went in the favor of the Hornets by a 12-11 margin.
What's Next? IWU looks to bounce back in game two of their spring break road trip with a 4 p.m. ET game on Tuesday, March 15 at Ferrum College in Ferrum, Va.
