BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team needed only three sets in each match to dispatch Lincoln Christian University and Plymouth State University on Saturday, Oct. 8, in the Barker Chevrolet Classic II at the Shirk Center.
IWU topped Lincoln Christian by scores of 15, 19, 16 and stalled Plymouth State by scores of 12, 17, 9. The wins propel IWU's overall record to 14-5.
Against the Red Lions, sophomore
Tyler Brown, who joined junior
Kyleigh Block on the all-tournament team, led the way with 11 kills while junior
Anne Cummings had nine and junior
Maisy Bowden added seven.
Sophomore
Leah Seielstad paced IWU with 24 assists and senior
Colleen Rynne added 14 while Block led the team with 12 digs.
Brown had 12 kills to lead IWU against the Panthers with Bowden makiing nine and Cummings had six. Seielstad and Rynne had 21 and 16 assists, respectively, and freshman
Raina Emery was the team leader with 10 digs. Sophomore
Heidi Dague had three total blocks.
As a team, IWU hit over .400 in sets one and three and hit .398 for the match with 45 kills and only eight errors in 93 attacks.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan returns to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play in Kenosha, Wis., with a match at Carthage College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The Lady Reds are 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW while the Titans are 4-1 in the conference.
