ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore
Tyler Brown tied a school mark with 27 kills and Illinois Wesleyan defeated Bowdoin College in four sets (25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22) at the WashU Active Ankle Invitational in St. Louis on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The Titans improved to 16-8 overall and the Polar Bears slipped to 12-8.
Brown's 27 kills tied the school record set by Alex Hill in five sets against Millikin on Oct. 24, 2012, and established an IWU record for most kills in a four-set match, topping the old mark of 26 set by Katie Butson (Elmhurst; Oct. 18, 2007) and Beth Crowley (St. Norbert, Oct. 4, 2003).
With 55 set assists against Bowdoin, senior
Colleen Rynne tied the IWU record for assists in a four-set match, equalling the mark set by Stacy Hassinger against Baldwin-Wallace on Oct. 10, 2008. Rynne now has 1,996 career assists, No. 9 all-time at Illinois Wesleyan.
In addition to Brown, junior
Anne Cummings had 14 kills and sophomore
Rachel Burkman had 13.
Junior libero
Kyleigh Block had 21 digs and led IWU with three service aces. Rynne had 15 digs and Brown had 14 digs aloing with a team-high two blocks.
Illinois Wesleyan hit .294 in the match with 65 total kills and 15 errors in 170 attacks. The Polar Bears hit .266 with 64 kills and 19 errors in 169 attempts.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan hosts the Barker Chevrolet Classic III next weekend with eight teams and 14 matches scheduled. IWU opens with Anderson University at 3:30 p.m. on Friday followed by DePauw at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Illinois Wesleyan meets Nebraska Wesleyan at 10 a.m. and Dominican at 2 p.m.
