IWU Volleyball Splits at WashU Active Ankle Invitational Friday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team defeated the University of Dubuque in three sets and lost to No. 3-ranked Wittenberg University in three sets at the WashU Active Ankle Invitational in St. Louis on Friday, Oct. 21.

Illinois Wesleyan defeated Dubuque by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-19 and lost to Wittenberg by scores of 19-25, 16-25, 23-25. The Titans are now 15-8 overall while Dubuque is 13-13 and the Tigers improved to 16-3.

Against Dubuque, Illinois Wesleyan was led by the 14 kills from junior Anne Cummings while sophomore Tyler Brown had 12 kills and sophomore Rachel Burkman added eight. Heidi Dague added six kills with a team-high four blocks.
Senior Colleen Rynne led the way with 39 set assists and junior Kyleigh Block, playing the libero position, led with 14 digs. Freshman Raina Emery, Brown and Rynne all had eight digs.
The Titans hit .394 in the match, their second highest total of the year, with 46 kills in 99 attacks and only seven errors.

In the match against Wittenberg, Brown led IWU with 12 kills with Burkman adding 11 and Bowden hitting seven. Rynne had 36 assists and Block had a team-best 12 digs with Burkman adding 11.
Illinois Wesleyan hit .120 in the three sets with 42 kills and 26 errors in 133 attacks while Wittenberg had a .306 hitting percentage with 44 kills and 11 errors in 108 attempts.
In set three, the Titans led by scores of 11-6 and 15-9 before the Tigers went on a 9-3 run to tie the issue at 18-18. Wittenberg closed out the match with a 7-5 run.

Illinois Wesleyan concludes play in St. Louis on Saturday with a match against Bowdoin (Maine) at 9:30 a.m.
