BELTON, Texas -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost a pair of three-set matches on Saturday, Sept. 5, in the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Tournament in Belton, Texas.
The Titans, now 2-2, lost to Southwestern (4-0) by scores of 25-27, 22-25, 21-25, and lost to the University of Texas at Dallas (4-1) by scores of 12-25, 20-25, 24-26.
"Today we struggled finding consistency," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "We have a lot of potential with this team so I'm encouraged about where we are and what lies ahead. For now, we just have to get back to the gym and work on some weaknesses."
Against Southwestern, who was among teams receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III preseason poll, IWU got 12 kills from sophomore
Kyleigh Block and 11 kills and 10 digs from freshman
Tyler Brown.
Sophomore
Maisy Bowden led the Titans with four blocks and senior
Mary Rankin paced the team with 25 digs. Freshman
Leah Seielstad had 18 set assists and junior
Colleen Rynne had 16.
In the match vs. UT-Dallas, Block led the way with 15 kills, 15 digs and two blocks. Bowden added eight blocks and sophomore
Anne Cummings had seven.

Anna Clausen also had two blocks.
Rankin made 13 digs while Seielstad and Brown each had 11 digs. Seielstad had 23 set assists and Rynne had 18.
What's Next?IWU plays next against Transylvania at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, in the first of three games for the Titans in the nine-team Barker Chevrolet Classic I at the Shirk Center.
