ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team, ranked No. 23 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, lost a three-set match at Washington U. in St. Louis on Thursday, Sept. 24.
The Bears won by scores of 25-8, 25-22, 25-15 and improved to 14-1 while the Titans lost their second straight and fell to 10-4 overall.
"Washington U. is a great team that runs a very fast offense," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "Our players were caught on their heels and were a step behind the entire match. Great teams will expose your weaknesses and they did just that. We'll go back to the gym to keep working."
Freshman
Rachel Burkman led IWU with six kills while sophomore
Kyleigh Block had five and freshman
Tyler Brown made four kills with six digs. Junior
Colleen Rynne led the team with 13 set assists and two service aces and also had six digs. Senior
Mary Rankin paced IWU with 10 digs.
The Titans hit just .023 in the three sets (21 kills, 19 errors, 86 attempts) while the Bears hit .378 (45 kills, 11 errors, 90 attempts).
What's Next?Illinois Wesleyan resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a 7 p.m. contest at North Park University in Chicago.
