No. 23 Titans Lose in Three Sets at No. 3 Washington U.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team, ranked No. 23 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, lost a three-set match at Washington U. in St. Louis on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The Bears won by scores of 25-8, 25-22, 25-15 and improved to 14-1 while the Titans lost their second straight and fell to 10-4 overall.

"Washington U. is a great team that runs a very fast offense," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "Our players were caught on their heels and were a step behind the entire match. Great teams will expose your weaknesses and they did just that. We'll go back to the gym to keep working."

Freshman Rachel Burkman led IWU with six kills while sophomore Kyleigh Block had five and freshman Tyler Brown made four kills with six digs. Junior Colleen Rynne led the team with 13 set assists and two service aces and also had six digs. Senior Mary Rankin paced IWU with 10 digs.

The Titans hit just .023 in the three sets (21 kills, 19 errors, 86 attempts) while the Bears hit .378 (45 kills, 11 errors, 90 attempts).
