Titans Lose 19-12 in Women's Lacrosse



BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team fell behind 10-6 at the end of the first half and lost 19-12 to North Central in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington, Ill., on Saturday, April 18. 

IWU slipped to 6-8 in their inaugural season and 1-3 in the CCIW while the Cardinals improved to 10-2 and 4-1 in conference play. 

Trailing 1-0 early in the first half, junior Lauren Pavich would net her 26th goal of the year to tie the game at one. NCC would score the next five goals to take a 6-1 lead before IWU would match the Cardinals with four goals each in the final 13 minutes of the half. Ill. Wesleyan would cut the North Central lead to 10-8 with 27:03 left in the game following goals by Pavich and sophomore Maggie Krause before NCC would again go on a 6-0 scoring run to double-up the Titans at 16-8. IWU would try and mount one last comeback by scoring three straight goals in a span of four minutes before the Cardinals would put the game on ice by scoring three of the last four goals in the game. 

Freshman Abby Kushina led the Titans with four goals and one assist, while Pavich and Krause each had three goals. Clarke Rich and Sophia Sodolski would score the other Titan goals while Pavich was the only other IWU player to record an assist (4).

Claire Quist made 13 saves in 60 minutes of action between the pipes. 


North Central outshot IWU 37-24, and collected 21 ground balls compared to 18 for the Titans. NCC held a commanding 21-12 advantage in draw controls while the Titans were successful on 12 of 17 clear attempts.

Illinois Wesleyan looks to snap a four-game losing streak when it travels to Elmhurst to face the Bluejays on Wednesday, April 22. First draw is scheduled for 6 p.m.
