IWU Women's Lacrosse Overwhelmed By Vikings

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After starting the season 4-0 on home turf, the Illinois Wesleyan women's lacrosse team suffered their first-ever home field loss, falling by a 25-4 score to conference rival Augustana at Tucci Stadium on Wednesday, April 15. 

With the loss, IWU is now 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest Division III West Region rankings, improved to 12-1 and 2-0 in the CCIW. 

Augustana scored the first 14 goals of the game and would hold the Titans without a shot until freshman Abby Kushina netted her 18th goal of the year with 1:31 left in the first period. Augustana led 14-1 at halftime and outscored the Titans 11-3 in the second half, with second half IWU goals coming from Kushina (1) and sophomore Maggie Krause.
Paige Hasty, Clarke Rich and Mariah Smith all recorded one assist for Ill. Wesleyan. 


Augustana outshot IWU 47-6, and collected 16 ground balls compared to 12 for the Titans. IWU were outdone in draw controls 26-6, but were successful in all eight clear attempts. 

What's Next?
The Titans look to rebound on Saturday, April 18, with a 2 p.m. home match vs. North Central College. The Cardinals are is 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW following a 15-13 home loss to Carthage on Wednesday night.
