Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Freshman Mackenzie Marquis threw her second straight no-hitter in game one as the Illinois Wesleyan softball team downed Monmouth College, 10-0 and 9-1, at IWU Field on Wednesday, April 1.
The two non-conference wins boost the No. 7-ranked Titans to a 19-3 overall record while the Fighting Scots slipped to 6-9.
Marquis (4-0), who has now pitched 16 2/3 consecutive no-hit innings, struck out 12 of her 15 outs and allowed three walks. She was staked to all the runs she would need when IWU scored four in the first inning.
With two outs and no one on base, junior second baseman
Laura Bonds singled up the middle, went to third on a single by junior catcher
Danielle Smith and scored on a wild pitch. After
Mary Rankin walked, freshman designated hitter
Amanda Lack singled up the middle to score Smith. A throwing error allowed senior first baseman
Chloe Montgomery to reach base and advance all the way to third as Rankin and Lack scored.
Senior centerfielder
Hannah Bowen had a double and three runs batted in while Bonds, Lack and freshman
Summer Stitt each collected two hits.
In game two, Montgomery (12-1) stifled the Scots on three hits and struck out five in five innings. She was supported by a three-hit game by Bonds, who cracked a two-run home run and finished with four runs batted in. Bowen also finished with two hits and sophomore first baseman
Sarah Platt hit a two-run homer in the second inning.
White-Out Results: More than $800 was raised in the lung cancer awareness "White-Out" games via 50/50 raffles and sales of balloons and white ribbons to assist Molly Hardesty, a former teammate of IWU head coach

Sammi Whitcomb on the Peoria Outlaws. Hardesty, a former softball player at Eureka College and has been the head softball coach at Bartonville (Ill.) Limestone High School, was diagnosed with lung cancer last fall.
What's Next?Illinois Wesleyan resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play against Augustana with a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 4. The Vikings are 14-5-1 and open CCIW play Friday at Millikin.
