Titans Power Past Pioneers 18-5

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Junior Maisie Cox and sophomore Maggie Krause scored nine of Illinois Wesleyan's 18 goals as the Titans won their first-ever College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's lacrosse match 18-5 over Carroll University at Tucci Stadium on Saturday, March 28.

The Titans are 6-4 and 1-0 in the CCIW while the Pioneers fell to 0-5 and 0-3 in the CCIW.

After trading goals in the first six minutes, IWU would outscore the Pioneers 8-3 in the rest of the first period to take a 9-4 lead at halftime. The Titans held Carroll to only one goal in the second half on four shots, outscoring the Pioneers 9-1 while firing off 13 shots on goal. 

Cox led all scorers with five goals while Krause netted four. Abby Kushina and Lauren Pavich had three goals, while Clarke Rich (2) and Sophia Sodolski rounded out the Titan scoring attack.

Cox also had six ground balls while Pavich assisted on three goals.

Freshman Claire Quist played all 60 minutes in goal and made four saves to improve her record in net to 5-2 this season.

IWU outshot the Pioneers 34-11 and collected 25 ground balls to 15 for Carroll. The Titans were guilty of 20 turnovers while the Pioneers had 26.

The Titans hit the road for a mid-week non-conference match at DePauw University on Wednesday, April 1. First draw is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. (ET).
