Brady Rose led three players in double figures as the Illinois Wesleyan Titans used a strong second half to defeat No. 14-ranked Washington U., 67-57 at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 4-2 this season and the Bears lost for the first time this year, slipping to 5-1.
The Titans led 21-9 with 8:03 before halftime before the Bears scored the final 12 points of the half to tie the score at 21-21 at intermission. WashU shot just .348 (8 of 23) from the field in the first half and IWU was at .333 (7 of 21).
After exchanging baskets and tying the game at 30-30 (the fifth and final tie of the game), the Titans reeled off six straight points to grab a 36-30 lead and WashU never got closer than 39-36 with 9:02 left as IWU led the remainder of the game. The biggest IWU lead was 15 points on two occasions, the latest at 56-41 with 4:15 remaining.
Joel Pennington came off the bench to score 14 points and senior
Bryce Dolan added 13 as the Titans were 11 of 22 from 3-point range in the game. IWU outrebounded the Bears, 33-30, with
Alec Bausch collecting a game-high nine boards.
Kevin Kucera had 13 points and Luke Silverman-Lloyd added 11 for Washington U.
What's Next?The Titans will take a week for final exams before returning to action next Saturday, Dec. 12 with their first road game of the year at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
