IWU Volleyball Sweeps Saturday Matches

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. --The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team needed only three sets to defeat Lincoln Christian and Rose-Hulman at the Barker Chevrolet Classic III on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Shirk Center.

In game one Saturday, the Titans topped Lincoln Christian by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-14, and the Titans handled the Fightin' Engineers, 25-14, 25-13, 25-20.

"This week we challenged our team to raise the level of play in the gym," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "Their performance this weekend was a reflection of their hard work."

Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Kyleigh Block and senior Mary Rankin were named to the all-tournament team. They were joined by Olivia Welch of Adrian; Olivia Sulentic of Simpson; Erin Syversen of Millikin; and Sarah Jensen of Rose-Hulman.

Against the Red Lions, freshman Tyler Brown had 10 kills and eight digs, Block had nine kills and 10 digs and freshman Rachel Burkman added seven kills.
Junior Colleen Rynne had 17 assists with two service aces and Rankin had 16 digs to lead IWU in those categories and freshman Leah Seielstad had 13 assists and two service aces.
Freshman Heidi Dague had four blocks and sophomore Maisy Bowden had three.

Burkman's 11 kills led the Titans against Rose-Hulman, with Brown having 10 kills and 13 digs and sophomore Anne Cummings adding six kills with three blocks.
Rynne had 21 assists and eight digs and Rankin provided 15 digs. Block hit three service aces with Dague making four total blocks and Seielstad had 13 set assists

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan returns to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Tuesday (Oct. 3) with a 7 p.m. game against Wheaton at the Shirk Center.
