Barker Classic III WebsiteBLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team improved to 13-4 with wins over Adrian and Simpson at the Barker Chevrolet Classic on Friday, Oct. 2, at the Shirk Center.
The Titans downed Adrian (8-5) by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-15, then handled Simpson (9-11) by scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-16.
"In both matches, we did a great job including all aspects of our offense," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "We were able to put ourselves in a position to execute some things that we've been working on in practice."
Against Adrian, IWU was led by freshman
Tyler Brown's 13 kills, while freshman
Rachel Burkman had 10 and sophomore birthday-girl
Kyleigh Block had nine kills, 11 digs and four service aces.
Freshman
Heidi Dague had a team-high three blocks and junior
Colleen Rynne had 24 assists. Freshman
Leah Seielstad had 16 assists and 11 digs and senior
Mary Rankin had a team-high 19 digs and four assists.
In the win over Simpson, Block had 14 kills and nine digs, with Brown adding 10 kills and 10 digs. Burkman also had nine kills.
Dague led the way with four blocks and Rynne provided 24 assists with Seielstad adding 19 assists. Rankin had 14 digs.
What's Next?Illinois Wesleyan will play Lincoln Christian at 10 a.m. and Rose-Hulman at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in the final day of the Barker Classic III.
