IWU Volleyball Splits Pair in Wisconsin

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-11) victory over Martin Luther College before dropping a 3-0 decision (25-22, 25-21, 25-23) to No. 12-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at the UW-Oshkosh invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17.

"This weekend was a good challenge for us. We're doing some great things but errors are coming at inopportune times. If we can learn to minimize those errors, we will find more success as a team." said Titan volleyball coach Kim Nelson-Brown following the 1-2 weekend. IWU is now 18-6 on the year, as sophomore Kyleigh Block was the lone Titan named to the all-tournament team.

In the first match, Block set a school-record with 10 service aces in a match in addition to recording seven kills. The previous record for ace in a match was held by Teresa Kirk who had nine in four sets against Concordia-Chicago in 2008.
Freshman Rachel Burkman led the Titans with eight kills and three blocks while junior Colleen Rynne (16) and freshman Leah Seielstad (10) each had double-digit set assists.

The second match against the Warhawks saw the Titans hit .223 as a team, but could not not come up with points in key situations. Brown led IWU with 13 kills and seven digs while also adding two blocks. Block also had double-digit kills with 11 while Rynne had 21 set assists.

What's Next?
IWU returns to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a key match at Millikin  at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Both the Titans and Big Blue are 3-1 in the CCIW and are tied for first place in the conference along with Elmhurst.
