BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 9-ranked Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team survived a cold shooting day to capture a 61-56 home court win over the University of Chicago at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The Titans improved to 6-1 with their sixth straight win while No. 17 Chicago lost for the second time this week and are now 5-3.

IWU, who trailed 28-24 at halftime, shot just .296 (8 of 27) in the first half from the field and made only 3 of 16 3-point tries in the opening period. But IWU shot .458 in the second half (11 of 24) while holding Chicago to just .292 from the field (7 of 24).

The Titans erased the halftime deficit with the first five points of the final period and took a 31-30 lead with 15:23 to play, a lead they would never relinquish. The contest was tied at 54-54 with 1:33 to play and at 56-56 with 1:13 left but a Dylan Overstreet basket with 44 seconds left  and free throws by sophomore Alec Bausch and senior Pat Sodemann iced the win for IWU.

The Titans won the rebound battle, 39-36, and forced 14 Maroons turnovers while committing only 11.
