D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll

The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team, with an overall record of 18-3, have re-entered the top 10 in the weekly D3hoops.com poll, checking in at No. 9 in the poll released Feb. 4.

Illinois Wesleyan was No. 7 in the Nov. 27, 2012 poll after being ranked No. 8 preseason and No. 3 in the final D3hoops.com poll last season after being No. 31 prior to their postseason run.

Three other College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin schools were among the vote-getters - North Central is No. 11 this week and Wheaton is No. 22 while Augustana fell to No. 30.

A win at the Shirk Center against North Park on Wednesday night (7:30 p.m. gametime) would ensure the Titans of a share of their first CCIW championship since 2005 and the school's 28th all-time conference men's basketball title. Others were in 1949, 1954, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Illinois Wesleyan is 10-0 in the CCIW for the first time the 1976-77 squad started with 14 wins (Carroll was in the league then and it was a 16-game schedule). That team ended 15-1 and featured Jack Sikma, Bob Spear and Jim Molinari. The 1969-70 squad (Tom Gramkow, Stan Broers, Fred Evans) was 16-0 in the CCIW and trailed at the half in nine of those games. The 1964-65 Titans were 12-0 (players included Jamie Shouba, Steve Laub, Jim Gresham) and won the CCIW.

Not since 1973 (Augustana, 16-0) has there been an undefeated CCIW champion. Since 1973, CCIW schools have won six NCAA D-III titles, finished second twice and third three times but no undefeated league champion. In the 39 years since Augie's 16-0 season, 13 champions had one loss and 15 champions had lost twice.
