#22 IWU Men Outlast #17 Augustana 63-60

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 22-ranked Illinois Wesleyan Titans earned a hard-fought 63-60 win over No. 17-ranked Augustana at the Shirk Center on Wednesday (Jan. 9).

♦ Junior Brady Zimmer scored 19 points and a team best six rebounds to lead IWU, who improved to 11-3 and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while junior Victor Davis added 16 points with five rebounds and a huge block late that helped preserve the victory.

♦ The Titans held a 36-28 rebounding edge in the game over the Vikings, who came into the game with a 12.5 rebound margin lead over opponents. Augustana fell to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW.

♦ The Vikings jumped out to a 12-2 lead but IWU went on a 13-0 run to grab a 15-12 advantage with 11:54 to go in the half. The teams went into the locker room tied at 31-31.

♦ The Titans had a 14-point lead at 58-44 with 7:10 to play but Augustana scored the next 14 points to tie the game at 58-58 with 2:54 remaining. A 3-pointer by Zimmer with 2:39 left and a layup by Zimmer with 1:43 left capped the scoring for the Titans.

♦  Illinois Wesleyan shot 46.9 percent from the field (23 of 49) and made 9 of 25 3-pointers (36.0). IWU had a 44.4 percentage from the free throw line (8 of 18). Augustana shot 42.6 from the floor (23 of 54) and knocked home 3 of 10 3-ball tries (30.0), going 0-for-6 in the final half including at the buzzer to tie. The Vikings made 11 of 14 from the line.

The Titans take on Carthage at 7 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 12) at the Shirk Center. The Red Men were 64-53 winners at home over previously unbeaten and No. 1-nationally ranked North Central on Wednesday.
