KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team won the first game of a doubleheader 3-2 but lost 10-0 in game two to split the first two of a three-game series at Carthage in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday (April 14).
The split gives the Titans an 18-8 overall record and a 7-4 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Red Men are 10-12 overall and 4-7 in league play.
In game one, the Titans scored two runs to get a 2-0 lead in the second inning as junior catcher
A.J. Nathan led off the inning with a home run to left center. Junior first baseman
Kevin Callahan singled and went to third on a one-out single by sophomore centerfielder
Jon Frericks. A sacrifice fly by junior third baseman
Anthony Lopez scored Callahan.
IWU got what proved to be the game-winning run in thesixth as sophomore rightfielder
Bobby Czarnowski singled to first base, Frericks singled to right field to get Czarnowski to third. Lopez then grounded into A 6-4-3 double play that scored Czarnowski.

Chris Bobo (3-1) was the winning pitcher as he allowed only one run on five hits and four walks while striking out three in 5 2/3 innings. Sophomore
John Frueh struck out four in three innings and allowed a run on two hits and senior
Pat Hayn picked up the save by retiring the only batter he faced in the ninth.

Johnathan Erickson had two of IWU's six hits in the nightcap as Carthage's Danny Dahm (2-2) struck out three in the seven-inning shutout.
Sophomore Matthew Conrad (1-2) took the pitching loss, allowing eight runs (three of which were earned) on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings. Sophomore
Jeff Johnson allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two in the remaining 3 2/3 frames.
