BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team scored in six of the seven innings to get a 12-2 win in the nightcap of a twinbill against Wheaton on Saturday (March 31). IWU lost game one 8-6.
Illinois Wesleyan is now 12-5 overall and 2-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Wheaton is 11-8 this spring and 1-2 in the league.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning of game two, the Titans scored three on four hits and two errors. Junior shortstop

Mark McDermott both singled and the bases were loaded when sophomore
Jon Frericks reached on an error in a sacrifice bunt attempt. Sophomore designated hitter
Johnathan Erickson singled to bring home Scott and junior first baseman
Kevin Callahan grounded into a double play that scored McDermott. Junior catcher
A.J. Nathan doubled down the leftfield line to bring in Frericks, giving IWU all the runs they would need.
IWU added single runs in the second, third and fourth and put up three runs in both the sixth and seventh.
Erickson finished with three hits with three runs batted in while Scott, McDermott, Callahan and Nathan each had two hits.
Junior
Nick Mehn (3-1), working in relief of freshman starter
Matt Hart, got the win as he allowed five hits, walked three and struck out three in 4 2/3 innings.
The Titans scored four times in the last of the ninth in game one to get close but IWU pitchers allowed 14 hits with six walks and freshman
Chris Bobo (1-1) hit five enemy batters, the most since Jesse Foster hit five against Adrian on March 14, 2008.
Wheaton left 18 men on base in addition to scoring eight runs.
Scott and Nathan had two of IWU's eight hits in the opener.
Illinois Wesleyan's next action will be a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Millikin on Tuesday (April 3). The Big Blue are 4-13 overall and 0-2 in the CCIW heading into a Sunday (April 1) game at North Park.
