Huge First Half Lead Helps IWU to Easy 17-Point Win

MAITLAND, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team limited Mississippi College to nine points in the first half and went on to claim a 67-50 win in the RDV Sportsplex D3 Basketball Classic in Maitland, Fla., on Friday (Dec. 21).

•  The No. 17-nationally ranked Titans (who improved to 7-2) scored the first 21 points of the game and led 44-9 at halftime as Mississippi College was 3 of 27 from the field in the first half (11.1 percent) and made 3 of 6 free throws. IWU led by as many as 37 at 44-7 with 2:02 before the half.

•  In the first half, Illinois Wesleyan shot 55.2 percent from the field and finished with a 45.3 percent (24 of 53) mark for the game, were at 41.4 percent from 3-point range (12 of 29) and 70 percent from the free throw line (7 of 10).

•  The Choctaws (now 5-5 this season) have lost four of their last five games. They did win the second half scoring totals (41-23) and finished by shooting 32.1 percent (17 of 53), were 3 for 14 from beyond the arc (21.4 percent) and 13 of 21 in free throws (61.9 percent). Illinois Wesleyan ended up with a 40-28 rebounding edge and committed 19 turnovers compared to 12 for Mississippi College.

Who's Next?
•  The Titans will play Hope College at 2 p.m. Central time on Saturday (Dec. 22) in the final day of the tournament. The Flying Dutchmen are 4-5 after losing to Mississippi College 83-72 on Thursday in the first day of the Classic.
