Box Score

WHEATON, Ill. – It was a tough-nosed, even fight between the Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton women's soccer teams in the semifinal round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships, but the Thunder were able to pull away with a minute to go in overtime, 3-2, Tuesday (Oct. 30).

The No. 3-seed Titans conclude its season with a 9-9 overall mark and a 5-2 CCIW record, while No. 2 seed Wheaton improves to 16-3-2 overall. The Thunder, ranked No. 22 in the latest national Division III poll, finished 5-1-1 in the CCIW regular season.

This is the first time since 2007 that an IWU team will not be in the conference title match.

Wheaton's Ally Witt scored the clutch goal with about a minute remaining in overtime as she beat the Titan defense, concluding IWU's conference run.

The Titans opened the game with the first goal, as Kate Dunaway chipped in the short cross from senior Emily Hinchman to get the ball past Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham at the 19:56 point.

The Thunder, however, responded at the 38:42 marker when Ally Witt knocked the ball past Zoie Samaan from five yards out to even out the score, 1-1.

In the second half, Hannah Ketterling beat the Wheaton defense, bending the ball inside the far post to put the Titans ahead, 2-1. Hinchman was again accredited with the assist.

Under two minutes later, the Thunders' Leah DeMoss scored on the short cross to make the score 2-2, putting the game into overtime.

Samaan concluded the game with six saves to three goals allowed. Graham had four saves to two goals scored.

The 2012 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament Championship match will feature the semifinal winners (Wheaton vs. the winner of the Wednesday match between North Central and Augustana), playing at the highest remaining seed on Saturday (November 3).
