IWU Women's Soccer Overcomes Carthage, 1-0

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage women's soccer teams each had strong defensive showings Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon at Art Keller Field, but the Titans were able to get one past the Lady Reds, sealing the deal for the 1-0 victory.

IWU improves to 9-8 and 5-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin for a third-place spot in the standings and a league tournament qualifying spot. Carthage (5-10-4) is 1-4-2 in the conference, for a sixth-place spot.

The Titans' Ashley Montijo knocked a corner kick to Kate Dunaway, where she headed the ball past Carthage goal keeper Abby Alm for the lone goal of the game.

Zoie Samaan guarded IWU's goal, where she had one save to four shots faced. Alm tallied 13 saves to 25 shots faced.

IWU will play at No. 2-seed Wheaton (15-3-2, 5-1-1 CCIW) in a conference tournament semifinal match at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 30).
