BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Sophomore first baseman
Kevin Callahan hit two home runs in the fourth inning to power Illinois Wesleyan to a 10-3 win over visiting Webster in game one and the Titans cruised to a 10-4 win in game two on April 28 at Horenberger Field.
With the wins, Illinois Wesleyan improved to 21-10 while the Gorloks fell to 21-10.
The Titans erased a 3-0 deficit by exploding for nine runs on only four hits in the fourth inning. With one out, Callahan homered to rightfield. Freshman designated hitter
Bobby Czarnowski walked and sophomore catcher
A.J. Nathan was hit by a pitch. Nathan was forced at second on a fielder's choice by freshman second baseman
Johnathan Erickson and Czarnowski went to third. Junior rightfielder
Kevin Sullivan walked to load the bases and sophomore shortstop
Zach Scott walked to force in Czarnowski. Senior centerfielder
Ryan Hopp singled home Sullivan and Erickson to make the score 4-3.
Junior leftfielder
Mark McDermott singled to leftfield to bring in Scott and senior third baseman
Jeff Grodecki was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Hopp scampered home on a wild pitch before Callahan unloaded his second home run of the inning to plate three runs.
IWU junior righthander
Eric McCullough (3-0) survived a shaky start to earn the pitching victory. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowed three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
The Titans jumped all over the Gorloks in the second game, scoring five in the first. Hopp singled and went to second on an error on the pitcher. After McDermott walked and Grodecki reached on a bunt single to load the bases, Callahan walked to bring in Hopp. Czarnowski then brought home McDermott and Grodecki with a double to right center.
Nathan then walked to load the bases and Erickson had the first of his four hits in the game to score Callahan. After a strikeout, Scott singled to left to chase home Czarnowski.
IWU added one run in the third, three in the fourth and one more in the sixth.
Sophomore righthander
Anthony Kopp evened his pitching record at 2-2 with the win, working the first five scoreless innings and allowing six hits while striking out four.
Illinois Wesleyan hosts Elmhurst in a 6 p.m. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at Horenberger Field on Friday, April 29.
