WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team took Wheaton into overtime before falling to the Thunder, 78-76, on Saturday, February 12. Senior Doug Sexauer scored 32 points and gathered in 10 rebounds in the loss.

The No. 23-ranked Titans fell to 16-6 overall and 7-4 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Wheaton improved to 7-5 in the conference (along with Carthage) and 16-7 overall.

Senior Sean Johnson connected on a dramatic 3-pointer at the buzzer to get the game into overtime, 71-71.
The Titans took a 66-65 lead with 1:19 to play in regulation on a 3-pointer by junior Jordan Zimmer before three free throws by Andrew Jahns gave Wheaton a 68-66 edge with 1:05 to go. Sexauer tied the game at 68-68 with 53 seconds left and the Thunder took a 70-68 lead with 24 seconds left on a basket by Spencer Schultze.
A Johnson missed shot was rebounded by Tim McCrary, who was fouled but made only one of two free throws to give Wheaton a 71-68 lead with 2.2 seconds left to set up Johnson's game-tying shot.

Sexauer, who had 19 at halftime, scored more than 30 points for the second time in the last 15 days and hit on a career-high four 3-point field goals. He had never made more than two treys in a game before and had done that six times.
Johnson finished with 15 points and Zimmer scored 10.

The Titans shot .433 from the field in the game (26 of 60) and made eight of 23 (.348) 3-point field goal tries. IWU made 16 of 24 from the free throw line (.667).

Wheaton shot .509 (28 of 55) from the field and made six of 12 (.500) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Thunder, who got 21 points and 15 rebounds from McCrary, made 16 of 21 free throws (.762). Schultze scored 14 points, Jahns added 12 and Tyler Peters scored 11.

Illinois Wesleyan was outrebounded by the Thunder, 35-33, the Titans committed 14 turnovers to 16 for Wheaton.

The game was delayed for nearly 10 minutes midway through the second half when IWU senior guard Travis Rosenkranz suffered an apparent concussion.

With less than a 48 hour turnaround, Illinois Wesleyan will play next at North Central on Monday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m., in the make-up of the snowed-out game earlier this month. The Cardinals (12-10 overall) are in second place in the CCIW with an 8-3 record.
