Eliud Gonzalez tied a Ratner Center opponents' record with his career-high 11 assists and four players scored in double figures as Illinois Wesleyan got an 84-63 win over Chicago on Saturday (Dec. 10).
The Titans led 22-17 with 10:07 left in the first period before a 10-point run gave IWU a 32-17 edge with 6:18 before intermission. The hot-shooting Titans led by as many as 28 on two occasions in the second half.
The Titans shot .550 from the field in the game (33 of 60) and made six of 19 (.316) 3-point field goal tries. IWU made 12 of 18 from the free throw line (.667).

Kevin Reed led Illinois Wesleyan (who improved to 6-2) with 16 points while sophomores
Victor Davis,
Andrew Ziemnik and
Nick Anderson each scored 10.
Gonzalez's 11 assists is tied for ninth most in an IWU game. The record is 14, shared by Adam Dauksas (Benedictine, 12/22/03) and Brian Martin (Carthage, 2/9/91). In tying the U. of Chicago Ratner Center record for most assists by an opposing player, Gonzalez joined two others who have had 11 since the building opened in 2003.
Chicago (now with a 5-3 record) dug a first half hole by shooting only .265 (nine of 34) from the field and making only three of 18 3-pointers (.188). For the game, the Maroons shot .365 (23 of 63) from the field and made eight of 29 (.276) from beyond the 3-point arc.
Chicago got 13 points each from Steve Stefanou and Matt Johnson.
The Titans will face another University Athletic Association foe next Saturday (Dec. 17) when they host Washington U. in a 3 p.m. tipoff at the Shirk Center.
