IWU Men 4-0 After 77-49 Win vs. Monmouth

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Junior Kevin Reed scored a career-high 15 points and snared 10 rebounds, also a career-high, to lead the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team to a 77-49 win over Monmouth at the Shirk Center on Tuesday (Nov. 22).

The Titans, who improved to 4-0 with the win, jumped out to a 9-0 lead at the game's outset and the Scots (0-2) never got closer than six points (14-8) the rest of the way. IWU held a 43-30 lead at the half and went on a 20-4 run to start the final period to claim a 63-34 edge with 13:10 remaining.

Reed's previous career best showings were 12 points (vs MacMurray last weekend) and seven rebounds (vs. Johnson & Wales, Nov. 21, 2009).

In addition to Reed's double-double, sophomore Victor Davis also scored in double figures with 11 points and junior Daniel Oswald came off the bench to score 10. IWU had 35 bench points to 20 for Monmouth.

Senior Stephen Rudnicki handed out a game-high seven assists.

Illinois Wesleyan made 30 of 67 from the field (.448) and connected on five of 21 3-point free tries (.238) while making 12 of 20 free throws (.600).

The Scots, who were led by the 10-point efforts from Kenny Foster and David Altman, shot only .294 (15 of 51) from the field and made three of 13 (.231) from beyond the 3-point arc. Monmouth made 16 of 23 free throws (.696).

The Titans held a commanding 49-32 rebound advantage as Davis had eight and senior John Koschnitzky added seven boards. Altman also led Monmouth with eight rebounds.
The Scots committed 21 turnovers compared to 16 for the Titans and IWU had 20 points in the paint compared to four for Monmouth.

With their third straight game against Midwest Conference opponents, the Titans play next at Ripon at 3 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 26).
