CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan football team improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2000 season with a 42-3 win at North Park on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Chicago.

IWU, now 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, amassed 466 total yards with 198 coming by the rush and 268 passing, compared to 235 yards for the Vikings, who fell to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the CCIW. North Park had 0 passing yards after having only 8 passing yards last week in a loss to Elmhurst.

The Titans scored 14 first quarter points on their first two possessions. The first score came with 9:10 left when sophomore Rob Gallik ran in from 1 yard out to cap a six play, 52 yard drive. Freshman Tony Angelos added the kick to give IWU a 7-0 lead.

Cameron Blossom scored, also on a 1-yard run, with 4:37 to go in the quarter and Angelos' kick made the score 14-0.

The Vikings scored their only points of the day on a 40-yard field goal by Tony Kebede with 11:15 to play in the second quarter and the Titans tacked on two more touchdowns in the final three minutes of the half. With 2:21 to play, Gallik ran in from 21 yards out. That nine-play, 80-yard drive was aided by a fake punt when Mike Heaton completed an 11-yard pass to Chris Simms on fourth down.

IWU got the ball with 1:00 left before the half and marched the ball 62 yards in 40 seconds to score with 20 seconds remaining on a 3-yard pass from Gallik to junior Tate Musselman. A 41-yard pass play from Gallik to Musso was a key during that drive as the Titans held a 28-0 halftime lead.

IWU took a 35-3 lead with 7:12 to play in the third when sophomore Sean Conley scored on another 1-yard run to finish off a 13-play, 73-yard drive that ate up 7:48 of the clock.

The final score of the game came when Conley scored with 8:03 to play in the game on a 2-yard run. IWU had gotten the ball back on a fumble recovery by senior defensive end Ryan Jenkins.

Cameron Allen was IWU's leading rusher with 75 yards on seven carries and Gallik was 16 of 24 for 257 yards and a TD. Tight end Parker Carroll made a team-high five catches for 99 yards.

Senior linebacker Ben Houk and senior defensive back Scott Wenzel led the Titans with nine tackles each while senior linebacker Ryan Gresko had six. Houk had four tackles for losses.

IWU, who plays at Elmhurst next Saturday at 1 p.m., was 6-0 in 2000 before a loss to Wheaton and finished with a 9-1 record that year.
