MONMOUTH, Ill. - Senior captain Sean Johnson erupted for a career-high 35 points to help the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team win a road game at Monmouth College, 81-68, on Tuesday, Nov, 23.

The Titans improved to 4-0 this season while the Scots dropped to 1-1.

Johnson's previous career high was 32 points on two occasions - against Wisconsin-Stevens Point (3/13/10) and Manchester (11/29/09).
Against Monmouth, Johnson was 10-of-14 from the field, made five 3-pointers and knocked in 10 of 13 free throws. Johnson and senior Duncan Lawson also led the team with six rebounds each as Monmouth outrebounded the Titans, 32-29.

Junior Ryan Connolly was the only other Titan in double digits as he came off the bench to contribute 14. IWU's bench outscored Monmouth's, 27-12.

The Titans, who shot .568 for the game (25 of 44), trailed for much of the first half, including a 17-10 deficit midway through the first half. IWU took a two-point lead with five minutes left in the half and stretched their lead to 17 with 8:24 left before the Scots put on a late charge.

An 11-4 Monmouth run cut the Scots' deficit to eight at 70-62 with three minutes left. The Titans hit eight of their 10 free throws in the final 1:22 to perserve the win.

Bryce Donaldson had 19 and Corey Gruber scored 12 to lead the Scots.

IWU next hosts Dominican at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 27.
