4/25/2009 9:00:49 PM

Box Score Wheaton used a late rally to beat Illinois Wesleyan in baseball, 11-6, on April 25. The second game of the doubleheader was rained out and will be rescheduled at a future date.

The loss leaves the Titans at 21-10 overall and 12-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Thunder improved to 19-15 overall and 11-6 in the league.

Junior second baseman Brett Moore hit a home run to left-centerfield to lead off the game against Wheaton lefty Steve Dennison.

IWU lefthander Joe Froelich made it once through the Wheaton lineup before the Thunder bats awoke. An RBI double by Brian Kolb and RBI singles by Josh Weaver and Charlie Antal gave Wheaton a 3-1 lead in the third inning.

RBI singles by Kolb and Ryan Miller stretched the lead to 5-1 but IWU bounced back with five runs over the next two frames to retake a 6-5 advantage.
IWU got three in the sixth as Moore singled to right center, Mike Morrissey singled to right and Kraig Ladd singled home Moore. Senior Kevin Goshorn then singled home Morrissey with Ladd going to third. A walk to Casey McIntosh loaded the bases before third baseman Jeff Grodecki hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Ladd.

The Titans plated two more in the seventh as, with one out, Moore got his third hit of the day on a single to rightfield. Morrissey sacrificed him to second and Ladd doubled to right field to Moore.

After Froelich was taken out of the game after 4 1/3 innings, IWU put in junior Paul Kabbes. Wheaton loaded the bases when Miller stroked a two-run single up the middle. Kolb chased Kabbes with an RBI single to rightfield before Justin Zeller smacked a three-run homer to right off Matt Aronson

Wheaton senior Ed McCaskey worked out of multiple jams and got the win in four innings of relief, allowing six hits and two runs with one strikeout.

Wheaton's offense was paced by their No. 1-3 hitters, who combined to go 8-for-15 with nine RBI. Miller and Kolb both went 3-for-5 with three RBI and Zeller went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Antal also went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
