With a wealth of experience in his young career as a coach, Jacob Schoonover is in his first year at Illinois Wesleyan, assisting with the defensive backs and linebackers. Schoonover is a 2008 graduate of Missouri Western State University, where he started 30 games and was the Griffons’ linebacker captain. He was the defensive ends coach at MWSU for a season before becoming a graduate assistant with the wide receivers and offensive line at Illinois State. Schoonover, who is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration, played linebacker and wide receiver in 2008 and 2009 for the arena league Peoria Pirates, serving as team captain in 2009.
