1976-77 IWU Men's Basketball Broadcasts

These audio broadcasts from the 1976-77 season were originally on WAKC Radio, Normal, and are from the private collection of Illinois Wesleyan sports information director Stew Salowitz, who did play-by-play for Titan games that season on the radio station.


Jacksonville 66, Illinois Wesleyan 64, Dec. 18, 1976 at Jacksonville, Fla.
Jack Sikma scored 32 points and grabbed 7 rebounds...John Lenahan had team-high 8 rebounds as IWU was outrebounded 37-27...Dolphins were coached by Don Beasley and finished the season 10-19...Top players were Kent Glover and Felton Young...

Florida 78, Illinois Wesleyan 68, Dec. 20, 1976 at Gainesville, Fla.
Sikma scored 31 points with 8 rebounds...Lenahan also in double figures with 10 points...Florida team had Malcolm Cesare and Al Bonner, both still ranked in top 37 all-time Gator scoring...Florida finished 17-9 overall and 10-8 in Southeast Conference...Also had JuCO All-American transfer Richard Glasper with 44 inch vertical leap...

DePaul 82, Illinois Wesleyan 63, Jan. 19, 1977 at Chicago
Sikma only Titan in double-figure scoring with 26 while garnering 8 rebounds...Blue Demons team. coached by Ray Meyer, featured Dave Corzine and Joe Ponsetto...DePaul lost earlier in the season to defending champion Indiana by 8 (50-42) and UCLA by 7 (76-69)...Corzine is school's all-time scoring leader and third in career rebounds and took 1978 team to final 8 of NCAA tournament...

Illinois Wesleyan 56, Quincy 54 (OT), March 2, 1977 at Bloomington
NAIA district 20 playoff game with winner advancing to national tournament in Kansas City...Sikma scored 28 points with 14 rebounds...Coached by Sherrill Hanks, the Hawks finished 23-9 that season with two of those losses coming to IWU...Quincy suffered a 69-51 loss to the Titans earlier in the year...
