Kormah secures first career shutout with six saves

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team drew against Kalamazoo College, 0-0, Saturday, Sept. 5 at MacKenzie Field. The Titans sit at 0-0-2 while the Hornets move to 1-1-1.

Kalamazoo got its first shot on goal 98 seconds into the contest, but it was steered away by sophomore goalie Zoe Kormah (Pekin, Ill-Pekin Community). The next 20 minutes only saw one combined shot courtesy of the Hornets. Kormah earned her second save of the match, stymieing a Hornets chance at 38:05 leading to a 0-0 halftime score. Kalamazoo outshot IWU 4-0, with two of them on target in the first 45.

IWU registered its first shot of the match in the 49th minute courtesy of junior Liza Wiley (Bloomington, Ind.-Homeschooled). Kalamazoo had two more opportunities in the 58th and 62nd minute, but Kormah stopped both chances, earning her third and fourth saves of the day.

Seven minutes later, the Titans had two chances. junior Gianna Butler (Tinley Park, Ill.-Tinley Park) clanked the right post and Wiley fired a shot from the corner of the 18, but it was turned aside. Over the next ten minutes, both teams registered another shot on goal, but both goalies maintained their clean sheets.

Each team finished with eight shots, with IWU led by Wiley, who had four. The Hornets had six shots on goal compared to the Titans four. In net, Kormah had six saves, good for her first career shutout . Both teams took one corner.

IWU returns to Bloomington for its home opener, Monday, Sept. 7 against Wartburg. First touch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
