BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team heads north to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Kalamazoo College Saturday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m ET.
In their season opener against Simpson College, the Titans drew 1-1 Tuesday, Sept. 1. Senior captain Sophie Lampert (Hudson, Ill. – Normal West) contributed IWU's first goal of the year with an assist by fellow captain junior Ellen Dahlquist (Peoria, Ill. – Peoria Notre Dame) in the first half. With less than nine minutes left in the contest, the Storm equalized to post a 1-1 draw.
Illinois Wesleyan posted 16 shots with seven on target in its trip to Indianola, Iowa. Junior Liza Wiley (Bloomington, Ind. –Home School) made up six shots in the contest with Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo. – Lakewood) and Taylor Haun (Metamora, Ill. – Metamora Township) following with two shots, respectively.
Two freshmen, Peyton McMahon (Lakewood, Ill. – Crystal Lake Central) and Milania Mirjanic (Vernon Hills, Ill. – Vernon Hills) made their first collegiate starts in the contest with transfer Zoe Kormah (Pekin, Ill. – Pekin Community) making her first collegiate start as well.
This is the first meeting in over a decade for both teams as the Green and White took a 3-1 win over the Hornets back in Sept. 2015, growing IWU's lead in the all-time series over Kalamazoo 3-1. The Hornets were predicted fourth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Preseason Coaches' Poll after they finished their 2025 campaign at 10-5-2 (3-3-2 MIAA). Kalamazoo returns two Second Team All-MIAA players, who earned the honors in their rookie season.
